Signing Day Celebrates Four Student-Athletes Competing at the Next Level

On Friday, April 26, the Bush community celebrated four members of the Class of 2024 who are going on to play collegiate sports next year.

Carlos A. ’24 will be playing soccer at Occidental College in California and Geoffrey A. ’24 will be running cross country and track at Oberlin College in Ohio. Hedia L. ’24 will join the volleyball team at South Carolina State, and Reece R. ’24 will be rowing for the crew team at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY next year.

“We are so proud of your accomplishments. We will be following you next year, and don’t forget to come back to Bush as an alum,” Athletic Director Jo Ito said in his remarks.

Coaches, teammates, and family members attended the ceremony.

“I couldn’t be prouder of Carlos moving on to play at the next level as he made such a positive impact with The Bush School Soccer program. I know he will continue to do so at Occidental and beyond,” Varsity Soccer Head Coach Marcelino Dumpit said.

Carlos was a key part of Bush’s first-ever state boys soccer state championship in the spring of 2022, while Geoff was also part of Bush athletic history, helping the cross country team claim the program’s first boys state title in the fall of 2022.

“I am incredibly proud of Hedia, and grateful to have coached for the last four years,” said Bradie Ferguson, Bush’s Volleyball Head Coach. “Her commitment to play at the collegiate level is yet another testament to her phenomenal athletic ability as well as her enthusiasm for and commitment to volleyball. I am looking forward to wishing her continued success.”

This past fall, Heida was named the Emerald Sound Conference MVP for her incredible efforts on the court.

Reece R. ’24 was competing in a regatta and unable to attend the ceremony.
