The Bush School welcomes contributions through the Annual Fund, Capital Campaign, planned gifts, special events, and gifts in kind.
The Bush School is a non-profit, tax-exempt institution. Its fundraising programs are managed by the Development Department.
Development focuses on building relationships between the school and its constituencies in order to engage the community in advancing the mission of The Bush School. The Development Committee of the Board of Trustees works closely with the Director of Development and Head of School to establish fund-raising policy and goals.
The School’s overall fundraising philosophy is as follows:
The Bush School has, since its founding, required charitable support from its friends to help pay the cost of operating the School. As is typical with all independent schools, tuition does not cover the total cost of educating a Bush student. Donations, in addition to tuition, have always been essential for us to sustain and enhance the School’s environment for teaching and learning, and to offer our students and faculty diverse opportunities and experiences. Our friends and supporters have given gladly to help us “spark in students of diverse backgrounds and talents a passion for learning, accomplishment, and contribution to their communities.” Our plans for the future are ambitious and we know that we will continue to require significant funds to meet our expenses, maintain financial stability, and provide better facilities.
Today, tuition only covers approximately 80 percent of the cost of currently operating the School. Therefore, every year we ask for contributions to provide the balance of the School’s operating expenses and to pay for extraordinary needs outside the operating budget – such as the renovation or construction of facilities and building our endowment fund for greater fiscal stability.
It is an expectation that, as a part of membership in the Bush community, everyone –alumnae/i, parents, trustees, and friends - will thoughtfully consider and participate in supporting the School over and above tuition. In return, it is the School’s duty to appropriately recognize those contributions and to use them prudently and responsibly.
