Ways to Support The Bush School
There are a number of ways to give to the Bush School. Below are our principal fundraising initiatives.
Annual Fund
The Bush School’s top fundraising priority
For Our Students 2005-2006 Annual Fund
Michelle McCarthy and David Humphries, Chairs
Goal $675,000
Unrestricted gifts to the Annual Fund go directly to the school’s operating budget to pay for things such as financial aid, experiential programs, AMP’s, art supplies, computers, language courses, classroom supplies, international travel, athletic coaches, drama productions, wilderness programs, community service opportunities, desks, chairs, lights, heat and much MORE! Pledges are solicited throughout the year and all gifts must be paid by June 30, 2006
Build Bush: Phase 2 Campaign
Diana Broze, chair, Campaign Steering Committee
Our $34 million capital campaign is raising money to build a new Lower School, physical education and athletics facilities, parking, a community room, playfields, and gymnasium. Phase 1 was the construction of Wissner Hall, the Science and Technology building for the Upper School, which was completed in 2000. We are seeking multi-year pledges from current families and grandparents, past parents, alumni, and friends for this effort. The Parents Initiative Campaign is a part of Build Bush: Phase 2.
Celebrate Bush 2006
Can You Dig It?
Susan Holt and Karen Paulson, co-chairs
The Bush School will host Celebrate Bush on campus on April 2006 ! This is a party for the whole Bush School community and a fundraiser for the endowment for faculty compensation. Funds are raised through underwriting, ticket sales, raffle sales, and a fundraising flurry that evening.
The Annual Fund is the school's top priority fund-raising program. Annual Fund gifts are unrestricted and support the school's operations. Annual Fund gifts are solicited every year--whether or not a capital campaign is under way. A committee of volunteers secures gifts through direct mail and personal requests. In 2004-2005 the Annual Fund raised a total of $630,000.
Capital gifts are major gifts solicited for special needs, such as student financial aid, a new building, or increased endowment. The capital campaign to construct Wissner Hall, the Upper School science and technology center, concluded in December 1999 with $6,634,003 in gifts and pledges toward the $6.5 million campaign goal set in 1997. That included $1 million for the endowment.
The School is currently in the midst of a $34 million campaign to raise $30 million for a new Lower School facility, underground parking garage, athletic support facilities, a new gymnasium, an outdoor practice field, and play areas for Lower School and $4 million for additional endowment.
Most independent school endowments have been formed with funds obtained from planned gifts, especially bequests. The Helen Taylor Bush Society recognizes those who have informed the school that they have made provision for The Bush School in their estate plans.
We welcome donations of gifts in kind, such as library books, tickets to cultural events, and other items related to the educational program.
The Development Office is involved in a range of special events every year. Alumnae/i gather for class reunions, as well as for theme events, such as soccer games and a community service day. The George Taylor Dinner is an annual event that honors the Bush faculty. An annual Celebrate Bush spring party provides a festive occasion to celebrate the school and raise funds for faculty compensation endowment. Students in each division invite family and friends to visit on Grandparents and Special Friends Day.
