Eddie Moore, Jr.
Director of Diversity

Eddie Moore, Jr. came on board as Director of Diversity at The Bush School in August 2005. In this role, Eddie is responsible for moving forward within the school community the10 initiatives of the Diversity Plan adopted by the Board of Trustees (see separate handout for a copy of the Diversity Plan). Eddie's office is located next to the office of Head of School Frank Magusin, and his first task has been to listen to all segments of the community to learn about people's views and to see what is needed. He says one important function is for him to be available to students K-12, for all kinds of activities and discussions. For many students, says Eddie, it is important for them to have some positive and challenging conversations with “a brother with a PhD."

Prior to coming to The Bush School, Eddie was the Director of Diversity programs at two small colleges in Iowa. Eddie is Founder/CEO of America & MOORE Research and Consulting, a company that provides diversity and cultural competency training across the nation. Eddie is in great demand by schools and colleges across the country as a speaker and for his workshops on equity and justice. Eddie has contributed to two books, Brothers of the Academy: Up and Coming Black Scholars Earning Our Way in Higher Education, edited by Lee Jones, and Retaining African Americans in Higher Education: Challenging Paradigms for Retaining Students, Faculty and Administrators, also edited by Lee Jones. Eddie is the founder of the White Privilege Conference (WPC), a high-level diversity conference dealing with issues of white privilege and oppression (www.whiteprivilegeconference.com). Eddie received his BA in political science from Cornell College, his MA from Loras College and his Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Leadership Studies from the University of Iowa.

Words from the director:
“…..Diversity is bigger than black folks and white folks. Diversity is a complex issue and can’t be solved in one day, by one person in one place! Diversity is about skills and all of us have work to do. I am very excited about the opportunities and possibilities associated with working here at The Bush School. I am currently reaching out to students, faculty, parents, and community members. I want all of us to be better prepared for a 21st century multicultural society. Remember, integration without preparation never has worked in America and we have to get our kids better prepared for a diverse world. America is changing my friends and the question is: ARE WE READY?”
