School Policies: Commons/Food Service
Check out our current menu online.
The Commons opens daily at 7:30 a.m. Parents are welcome to join their children for breakfast or lunch. Parents may pay with cash or with their child’s PIN number. Our food service program emphasizes choice. We encourage students to try new foods. A variety of healthy, low-fat items are offered daily.
Certain foods are “off-limits” to Lower School students, including soda pop and Gatorade. (“Off-limits” foods are generally high in sugar, caffeine, fat and/or calories and the portions are too large for many young students.) Lower School beverages include milk, chocolate milk, assorted juices, and bottled waters. Dessert items include puddings, cookies, snack foods and frozen fruit bars. Students in grades K-5 may purchase no more than one chip/snack item and one dessert.
Parents of Middle and Upper School students should make clear to their children their family’s guidelines for choosing food and drink available in the Commons.
Students may choose from a hot lunch menu item, have a deli sandwich made to order, or build a salad from the salad bar. All hot lunches are served with fruit, salad or a special vegetable of the day. Students who bring lunch from home may also buy à la carte items to supplement their meal. We strive to help students make good choices. Portions of high-fat foods are limited; healthy options are always available and encouraged.
Peanut and Other Food Allergies
We do everything possible to keep peanuts and food containing peanuts well marked and away from other foods.
If you have any questions about food service or are concerned about your child’s food allergies, please contact Sharon Hannan, Food Service Manager, at 206-326-7744 or Sharon Hannan.
