Lower School Counseling
When to Contact
A parent should contact the School Counselor when:
- You have a concern about your children’s emotional/social well-being.
- Patterns of on-going or recurring difficulties emerge at school or at home.
- Personal issues prevent your child from focusing in class, completing work or impacting on academic progress.
- There are changes at home or within the family, i.e. divorce, moving, death, illness or a traumatic event.
- Somatic signs appear, such as fingernail biting, weight loss or gain, hair pulling, listlessness, personality changes, irritability or nervousness, difficulty maintaining focus or organization,
- Your child talks about not having friends, feeling isolated, not adjusting to school or disliking school.
- You have questions or concerns about the developmental stages of your child.
- Communicating with your child becomes difficult for your as well as your child and you need additional support for parenting strategies.
- Additional resources are needed to support your child (i.e. books, organizations, and websites).
