Bush XC Teams Place in Top 10 at 1A State Championships

It was a banner day for The Bush School cross country program, with both the boys and girls finishing in the top 10 at the1A Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association State Cross Country Championships in Pasco.
Saturday morning at the Sun Willow Golf Course, the Bush girls scored an impressive 128 points to claim fourth place as a team. The 1A title was won by Seton Catholic with 52 points. 

“This was a great day for the cross country program at Bush," Athletics Director Jo Ito said. "The work the coaching staff, lead by Coach James Batey, has put in over the past years is clearly paying off. Their focus on a positive, inclusive, and hard working team culture is the foundation of the team’s success. All runners played a vital role in this exciting season, and it’s so rewarding to see the high level of achievement the team reached.”

Kathryn F. ’23 led the Blazers with a top 25 finish, covering the 5,000-meter course in a time of 20 minutes, 27.40 seconds. Abby G. ’23 was the next fastest Bush runner placing 32 in a time of 20:56.20. Bush finished with all five runners in the top 65. 

The Bush boys cross country team was paced by Amare F. ’23, who finished in the top 20, capturing 16 in a time of 17:22.3. As a team, the Blazers scored 186 points to finish in eighth place. The Blazers were just three points away from seventh as Lakeside won the 1A team title with 111 points.

Also placing in the top 50 for Bush was Eric C. ’23, capturing 37 in a time of 17:49.2.
