Cal J. '24 and Bernie R. '24 Claim ESC Boys Tennis Doubles Title
For the second straight year, a pair of Bush Blazers have earned the title of Emerald Sound Conference Boys Tennis Doubles Champions. On Monday, October 17, at the Amy Lee Tennis Center, Bush’s Cal J. '24 and Bernie R. '24 defeated Seattle Academy (SAAS) 7-6, 6-2 to claim the ESC title, which included a thrilling come-from-behind first set victory.
Congratulations to Cal and Bernie for bringing home the boys doubles championship for the second year in the row,” Bush Athletic Director Jo Ito said. “Bernie has done an excellent job filling Quinn C.'s '22 (Cal's doubles partner last year) shoes, leading to a seamless transition and resulting in this year's duo remaining at the top of our conference and district. The time and effort they put in leading up to the season clearly paid off. Today's performance was a great example of their unique ability to remain calm, collected, and positive - even in the toughest moments.”
Cal and Bernie finished the fall regular season unbeaten in doubles play, and the honors of conference and district champions.
The two will next play in the WIAA State Tournament in the spring of 2023.
“We're so proud of Cal, Bernie, and the coaching staff,” Jo said. “They are such great representatives of our athletic program and we can't wait to see them compete for the state title in the spring.”
