Bush Board of Trustees: Meet 2022-2023 New Trustee, Geoff Harris
Geoff Harris is one of the newest members of the Board of Trustees. Find out his favorite spot on the Bush Campus, what excited him about the future of Bush, and much, much more. Geoff is the parent of Riley '25 and Niko '27 and serves on the Finance Committee. He shares, “Bush at its heart is about its people. I am inspired by every aspect of the community from exceptional faculty and staff, an active parent community and a great set of young learners.”
The Bush School’s Board is made up of twenty-five volunteer Trustees that oversee governance of the school. The board is the guardian of the school’s mission. It is the board’s responsibility to ensure that the mission is relevant and vital to the community it serves and to monitor the success of the school in fulfilling its mission. The Board meets monthly during the school year.
This academic year we are continuing to highlight the newest members of the Board of Trustees. We have asked our new Trustees a series of questions to help the community get to know them a bit better.

Name: Geoff Harris (Parent of Riley '25 and Niko '27)
Why do you serve on The Bush School Board of Trustees?
“I believe deeply in the mission of the school. The Board's job is to be a good steward of that mission and ensure the longevity of the institution. I want to do my small part to pay it forward and make sure that future generations can experience the joy of a Bush education like the one my family has enjoyed.”
What are some of your goals as a member of the board?
“I want to help make sure that it has all of the assets it needs to continue to deliver on its mission. In the near term that includes helping deliver on the campus vision for innovative spaces and supporting that work through helping grow the endowment.”
How has Bush changed your life or the life of your family?
“The Bush experiential education has pushed both of my kids (and their parents, if we're honest) in unexpected ways that have helped them form new opinions about the world and more importantly new opinions about themselves. The Middle School and Upper School years are so much about discovering who you are as an individual and Bush has created an environment where kids can explore different ideas about self in a supportive and safe space.”

What excites you about the future of Bush?
“Bush is entering its second century. This moment gives us an opportunity to both reaffirm and strengthen what Bush has meant to the Seattle educational landscape, and also to ask ourselves what more we can become - what more can we give to our existing community and how can we define that community more broadly and be of service.”

How would your kids describe you?
“My kids would most likely describe me as having an unhealthy relationship with Boston sports, the city of my youth, despite the fact that I've lived in Seattle for almost thirty years.”

Favorite spot on the Bush campus and why?
“Benaroya. I'm a big fan of the theater and happy to have an excuse to check out a production.”

Favorite spot in Washington?
“Capital Hill. We have lived here for twenty years and love it. Things change, some for better and some for worse, but Cap Hill has remained the same vibrant, diverse, livable urban neighborhood we embraced twenty years ago.”
