Varsity Cross Country Finishes Regular Season with Strong Showing
The Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams both had gutsy performances on the flat course at Lake Sammamish at the Emerald City League race on October 16th. The boys team finished sixth overall with an impressive performance from Ethan (’18) who faced some adversity just minutes before the race.
Coach James Batey recalled Ethan’s performance, “despite donning spikes mere seconds before the race (Ethan) put his head down, put in an incredible amount of work, and translated four years of effort into a new school record.” His time of 16:06.70 smashed the previous school record set by Tom from the 2016 season. Shortly thereafter, Taylor finished 15th with a time of 17:29. Emil, Kiran and Gabriel all had personal bests with times of 18:27, 20:36, and 22:53, respectively. The girls team finished fourth overall with excellent performances all around. Ela, the team captain, finished in 9thplace, with her teammate Lolo right behind her in 11th with a personal record of 20:12. Audrey finished at 21:20 in 21st place and Jazz knocked 40 seconds off her previous personal best.
Congratulations to both the Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams on an excellent performance at the Emerald City League Meet. Best of luck at the Championships on Friday!
