Middle School Fall E-lective Registration Due Monday, August 7

The Middle School faculty and staff extend a warm welcome to our students and families as we begin the 2023-2024 school year. In preparation for the start of our Fall E-lectives on Friday, September 1, the E-lectives Catalog is now live for students to view the Fall 1, Fall 2, and Double Fall E-lective course offerings. Registration is also open, so students can share their preferred courses.

IMPORTANT >> Registration is due by Monday, August 7 at 11:59 p.m.

E-lectives Program Information

The Bush Middle School offers a wide variety of classes through the E-lectives program. Students are encouraged to pursue their special interest or activity, as well as take this opportunity to try new things and meet new people. We value this experiential program precisely because it gives students opportunities to discover new interests or traits, develop interpersonal, collaborative, and leadership skills, and take on real or perceived risks in a safe and nurturing environment.

E-lectives are short, highly-focused courses that provide opportunities for students to explore interests outside of traditional school subjects, and throughout the school’s history have included wilderness experiences, community engagement, and learning specific art disciplines.

In addition, many extracurricular activities have been held during the E-lectives time, including all Middle School sports, the play productions, and Tykoe yearbook.

Faculty often use E-lectives as a chance to share expertise outside of their core content area with students. Recent examples of this include Capoeira with English Teacher Sarah Cohen, and Mountain Biking with Math Teacher Caroline Huxtable and Physical Education Teacher Leslie Loper.

Parents/Guardians are active participants in the process of making E-lectives selections, as a fair bit of planning is required. Please review the 2023-2024 E-lectives Catalog with your child(ren) carefully and consider the following when putting together their Fall E-lectives selections:
  • Programs may require parent/guardian permission.
  • Programs have varying equipment needs or prerequisites.
  • Programs may have mandatory time commitments outside of the school day.

Registering for E-lectives Program Courses

  • Review the E-lectives Catalog here.
  • Register for the E-lectives program here.
    • The form will ask students to rank their top five single session E-lective choices for Fall 1, their top five single session choices for Fall 2, and their interest in participating in a Double Fall session. Then, students will draw from those selections already made and rank their top six choices overall.
    • The form will ask students to verify that they have permission from parents/guardians to participate in all their selections.
    • The form will ask students to verify that they understand course assignments are final once rosters are published, so they should be prepared to participate in any of their selections.
  • Please register by 11:59 p.m. Monday, August 7. Please note, requests received by this time will be given priority over those received after.
If you have questions regarding the E-lectives Catalog or the registration process, please reach out to me directly at katherine.francisco@bush.edu.
