Bush Golfers Win Everything
Alec Osenbach
The golf season ended the same way it started for the Bush team - with a tight win over reigning league champion Overlake. Playing their league championship match at Snoqualmie Falls golf course, the Blazers cemented their position as the top team in the Emerald City League.
Bush was led by senior Ian G., who proved that his league-best scoring average was no fluke. Ian shot a cool 75 to take medalist honors by 4 strokes. He was followed by sophomore Jackson L., who beat out the best golfers from Overlake and Seattle Academy to take 2nd by himself with a 79.
Arguably the best performance on the team came from sophomore Craig B. playing in the number 3 position. Craig improved on his score from last year to shoot an 82 and take 6th overall. He will move on to the district championships next spring, along with Ian and Craig.
The final piece of the puzzle - one that was absent last year - was the scoring from the rest of the team. In contrast to the 3 golfers that qualified for League in 2011, Bush took the full 6-man squad to Snoqualmie Falls this year. The 4-6 golfers for Bush, Cooper J., Jaan B., and Lucas S., came through again, solidifying the win for the team. Jaan shot a personal best 97, while Cooper and Lucas posted 99 and 104 respectively.
In addition to winning the league championship for the first time since 2002, Bush also had 3 golfers named to the All-League team - Ian, Jackson, and Craig. This is especially impressive because only 5 golfers league-wide recieved this honor.
