6th Grade Girls Blaze past Forest Ridge

Steve Rosen
In a rematch against Forest Ridge the Blazers made up for an early season lost and did so in a big way.
Of any loss during the season the one that stung the most was the first game against Forest Ridge.  In that game, the Blazers were as equally athletic as their opponent, but unfortunately had never played against a zone defense.  It was a frustrating game as shots did not come easily against the compact zone nor did offensive rebounds.

What a difference a month makes.  This time the Blazers were ready.  On the opening tip Tula R. raced downcourt and scored the games opening points and the Blazers never looked back.  Unlike the first game where the Blazers turned the ball over on offense, this time they were patient, pass faked, and found holes in the zone all game long.  It was by far the best team play of the entire year and everyone played a pivotal role at some point in the game.

Along with the Blazers utilizing great ball control on offense, the defense did its part too.  Madi F. and Anya H. put tremendous pressure on the Forest Ridge point guards while Pamela, Nora, Ella and Tula really shut down the wings.  Perhaps the most improvement came from the posts where all players, Ludi, Ellie, Avie and Anne played excellent help defense anytime Forest Ridge broke through the first line of defense.

In the second half, Ludi F. came close to making the teams first three-pointer of the season, but just barely stepped over the line.  Still, the shot was a beauty.

Go Blazers!
