Help Us Celebrate Retiring Middle School Faculty Laurie Mathews and Tom Wise!
After a combined extraordinary fifty-three years of inspiring young minds and hearts at The Bush School, Middle School faculty members Laurie Mathews and Tom Wise are retiring this June. Let’s come together to honor Laurie and Tom’s legacy and thank them for the many ways they’ve helped shape our community.
Farewell Gathering for Laurie and Tom Date: Tuesday, June 10 Time: 3:30–4:30 p.m. Location: Bush Community Room
Join us for an open house-style celebration with cake, lemonade, and warm wishes as we send Laurie and Tom off in Bush style. Stop by anytime between 3:30–4:30 p.m. to share a memory or just say thanks. For those attending the Fifth Grade Moving-Up Ceremony at 4:00 p.m., we encourage you to visit beforehand.
Laurie began her Bush journey in 1996 as a team teacher in Fourth and Fifth Grades, and since 2002, she’s brought Sixth Grade English to life in the Middle School—nurturing a love of literature, reflection, and creativity in countless students.
A beloved teacher, advisor, trip leader, and colleague, Tom, who has worked in the Bush Middle School since 2002 as a science faculty member, brings energy, creativity, and lived experience to his teaching and work with students.
At Bush, we believe in cultivating community and creating connection—and Laurie and Tom have done just that for nearly three decades. Let’s show our appreciation for her impact on our students, families, and colleagues.
Can’t attend? You can still leave Laurie and Tom a heartfelt message or memory by adding to our Kudoboard above!
