Lower School December and January Service Club Opportunities

🥫December Lower School Service Club
Service Club will be supporting a food and hygiene kit drive as a part of a Lower School community engagement event, where students will participate in a variety of community-minded service projects on the morning of Friday, December 19. Students will assist with the collection and learning about the work of local partner organizations, including Teen Feed, Backpack Brigade, Asian Counseling and Referral Service, and Byrd Barr Place

We invite the entire K-12 community to join in this effort and help make a meaningful impact on our local community experiencing food insecurity.

Donation bins will also be available near the Lower School Office and the Main Office, and at the Majestic Bay Theater during the Lower School Movie Morning on Saturday, December 13.

🥪January: We’ll continue this focus by supporting Lake City Partners, building on the partnership we began through sack-lunch donations last year. Students will prepare sandwiches and assemble eighty sack lunches, enough for two days of meals, for Aurora Oaks, an enhanced shelter in Shoreline serving sixty residents. All K–5 students are invited to participate. Middle School helpers are welcome to join.

💚 Thank You to Our Campus Beautification and Fall Yard Clean-Up
participants!

Thank you to everyone who joined our Lower School Service Club on Friday, November 21! Twenty-three students and ten volunteers, many in their cozy pajamas on the last day before fall break, brought their bright autumn spirit to the afternoon as they worked together to clear the leaves from the Middle School courtyard, enhancing the beauty and safety of this shared space.

After the clean up, students wrapped up the afternoon with hot cocoa, cider, and crafting, creating eco-themed button badges and greeting cards using dried flowers and leaves.

We are grateful to Bush Ground Coordinator Rachel Skokan and Groundskeeper Madison Opp for leading this project and providing tools, and to the Lower School Christian Affinity Group for picking up all the garbage from the courtyard before the leaf clean-up!

As we wrap up our environmental projects this fall, we look forward to caring for our new worm bin through winter. Students will help feed and tend to the worms, and in spring, will harvest their nutrient-rich castings for the school’s gardens.

Together, these projects highlight how seasonal change invites us to care for the Earth, nurturing our community while giving back to the environment that sustains us.
