Checkmate! Bush Chess Team Shines at State Tournament

Our "small but mighty" Bush School chess team made some serious moves this past weekend at the Washington State Scholastic Chess Tournament in Tacoma.

Despite having a lean squad of just nine players, our Blazers proved that strategy and focus go a long way, securing thirteenth place in the overall championship!

The competition was fierce, but our students kept their cool under pressure:

Top Finishers: A huge shout-out to James L. ’38 and Ryan L. ’35, who dominated the board by winning four out of five games. Their incredible performance earned them each an impressive "giant" trophy!

Strong Performance: Four more of our talented players brought home hardware, receiving trophies in the "three out of five wins" category.

Team Ranking: Out of the over 250 schools represented across the state, Bush secured thirteenth place! An outstanding feat against much larger rosters.

This success is a testament to the dedication, practice, and sportsmanship our students bring to the board every week. Go Blazers!
