Next Lower School Service Club Halloween Costumes for NICU Infants - Friday, October 2

As the season turns and the weather gets cooler, our next Service Club project will bring a little extra comfort and joy to infants in the NICU at Seattle Children's Hospital. For families spending time in the NICU, finding ways to celebrate special moments and holiday seasons can bring a little comfort during their hospital stay. A soft, handmade Halloween costume gives families a chance to celebrate the season and create a special memory. Students will assemble and decorate felt Halloween costumes to lay gently over NICU infants. 

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first Service Club event of the year at PLAC event! Twenty-three students and twelve adults came together for a beautiful sunny afternoon in the community garden, harvesting vegetables and herbs, clearing out spent plants, planting new ones, and collecting seeds for next season. The seeds are gifts that keep on giving, as they help the garden grow from season to season and provide plenty to share among our community members.

A special Highlight was having Head of School, Sarah Smith, stop by the classroom to talk with students about the importance of service and share her appreciation for their efforts. It was also fun to have Lower School Director, Kathryn Bauman-Hill, and Marketing and Communications Director Mary Beth Lambert join students in the garden to work alongside them. It was a great example of what service is all about: learning by doing and working together to make communities better.

Our Bush worms have been hard at work all year turning food scraps into nutrient-rich compost!  Join Service Club and Athletic Director, Jo Ito, to harvest worm castings, replace the bedding, and get the worm bin ready for another year of composting. More details to come.
