Bush Boys Soccer Team Caps Incredible Season With State Runner-Up Finish
It didn’t long for the Bush Boys Varsity Soccer team to climb back to the top. After winning the program’s first state boys soccer title in 2022, the Blazers put together a magical postseason run this spring — winning four straight games as the #15 seed to advance to the WIAA 1A State Soccer Championship game against #1 University Prep. On Saturday, May 31 at Federal Way Memorial Field, the Blazers battled hard but ultimately fell 2-1 to finish the 2025 season as the runner-up. The team finished with a 15-6 record.
“Congratulations to the boys soccer team! The boys played an incredible season—one of the best in our school’s history,” said Bush Athletic Director Jos Ito. “The coaching staff did a phenomenal job preparing the team for this historic run. The players can be extremely proud of their season, especially their thrilling playoff journey. They left everything on the field and delivered a finals performance to remember.”
Down 2-0 early on Saturday against UPrep, Bush fought back as Phanuel W. ’25 scored to cut the lead to 2-1 at the half. The second half was a defensive battle with both teams unable to find the back of the net.
Seeded #15 going into the state tournament, Bush defeated #18 Cashmere in the opening round and then took down one of the favorites, #2 Cascade Christian, 4-1. Playing in the quarterfinals, Bush defeated Raymond-South Bend and blanked Columbia, 1-0 in the semifinals to head back to the state title game. In total, the Blazer gave up just four goals in the tournament.
