Bush's Duncan F-S. ’25 Leads Blazers at 1A State Track Capturing 3 Gold Medals
Already in the record books as one of the best distance runners in program history, Bush’s Duncan F-S. ’25 added to his legacy this weekend at the WIAA 1A State Track and Field Championships held May 29-31.
At Zaepfel Stadium in Yakima, Duncan completed the rare and impressive distance sweep, winning the 800, 1,600, and 3,200 meter titles. Duncan started off the three-day meet on Thursday claiming the 1,600 title in a time of 4:15.58. On Saturday, he won the 800 in a 1A state meet record time of 1:50.50, the second fastest time of the entire 4A-1A meet. His time was also a school record. He capped off the day by winning the 3,200 in 9:16.52. Duncan, who is set to run for Brown University this fall, became the first Blazer to win three state titles in one meet.
Teammate Xander T. ’26 also had a record state meet winning two state individual titles. The standout junior won the 110 hurdles in a time of 14.65 and added a victory in the 400 dash, clocking 49.70. he finished the 200 in fourth place, running a personal best of 21.86.
Senior Barack A. ’25, while teammate will run for the University of Rochester this fall, finished fourth in the 100 (11.05) and was eighth in the 200. Lincoln N. ’25 (800) and Benjamin H. ’25 (1,600 and 3,200) both had strong efforts at the state meet as well.
As a team the boys finished in fourth place with 61 points.
For the girls, Elise F. ’25 placed third in the 3,200, running 11:30.07, dropping twenty seconds off her time from the state meet a year ago. Teammate Reya G. ’26 finished third in the 100 (12.70), sixth in the 200 (26.04), and ran on the 4x100 relay that placed fourteenth overall.
