The Annual Fund's Impact: Spotlight on Middle School Faculty Sarah Cohen
At The Bush School, many of our dedicated faculty and staff are also proud parents of Bush students, offering them a unique and meaningful perspective on our community. Today, we’re excited to highlight Sarah Cohen, who has been part of the Bush faculty for thirteen years. She is the Middle School Eighth Grade English teacher and is the parent of two current seniors.
As a parent, Sarah Cohen has witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of the school’s educators and programs. She values how teachers serve as mirrors for students—helping them discover their strengths, passions, and areas for growth. Sarah believes teachers have the capacity to do this thanks to the strong support they receive from the community.
Sarah says that her daughters have thrived because of the opportunities Bush provides. One daughter earned her Wilderness First Responder certification during the Ninth Grade Cascade program, which sparked her confidence and interest in medicine. That experience led to an internship with a Bush parent who is a surgeon and an opportunity that included shadowing in a cadaver lab.
“Bush provided that experience and gave her the confidence to land someplace and explore things further,” Sarah said.
Sarah deeply values Bush’s commitment to experiential education, both as an educator and a lifelong learner. Over the years, she has led transformative
Middle School E-week trips to Thailand and New Mexico, witnessing firsthand how these immersive experiences shape students in lasting ways.
She’s also had the opportunity to grow professionally by attending the Independent Schools Experiential Education Network (ISEEN) Institute multiple times—an experience that has enriched her teaching and deepened her understanding of experiential learning.
In the classroom, Sarah brings that same spirit of engagement and creativity. She has a personal passion for Shakespeare and enjoys finding innovative ways to make complex material accessible and meaningful for middle school students. She’s inspired by the students she teaches: young learners who are eager to grow and engage with the world around them, and by the colleagues she works alongside.
Sarah believes that when everyone contributes to the Annual Fund, it sends a powerful message of shared belief in the school’s mission. That collective support not only funds experiences, but also models values for students, making those experiences even more meaningful.
“This is a community that believes that every child that wants to have an opportunity, should have one and I know the Annual Fund helps with that,” Sarah shared.
Participation in the Annual Fund supports each classroom, teacher, and student at Bush. Be a part of that collective impact, and
