A week of rafting and kayaking, learning the art of river guiding, and experiences that left these students appreciating northern Washington's river systems! Click here for photos!
This E-Week focused on river raft guiding instruction along the Methow River. Middle School students learned to read the river, knowledge of personal and river equipment, knots and rope handling skills, paddle boating, oar boating, scouting rapids, river rescue, and river ethics. Due to flood waters in the Methow, the group also rafted the Skagit River and noted the differences between a wild free-flowing system, and a managed and dammed upper river experience. Students also spent a day learning about river conservation and the importance of floods, wildlife, and salmon habitat restoration to appreciate our rivers for more than just recreation.
