The Lewis family has won numerous athletic accolades, most notably in tennis. Many of you have probably noticed their family name on countless championship banners in Schuchart Gym.
Chris, Tiffany, and Liz had extraordinary sports careers at Bush.
Between the three Lewis children, their accolades include:
- Earning 19 Varsity letters
- Winning:
- 7 individual league championships
- 9 individual district and 9 individual state championships
- 6 team league championships
- 7 team state championships
Chris graduated in 1998 and absolutely dominated the league and state in tennis during his four years at Bush, never losing a set in his entire high school career. He also played soccer and basketball and returned to coach the Upper School boys team from 2006-2009. He went on to be a singles and doubles starter at UC Berkeley from 1998-2001 and at Cornell University from 2001-2003.
Tiffany, a 2000 Bush graduate, played volleyball, tennis and basketball. Her career includes earning all-league 1st team honors in volleyball and tennis, and winning a tennis league singles championship, and a league, district and state doubles championship. She ended up playing on the women’s tennis team at Chapman University and went to nationals in 2000. Liz graduated from Bush in 2007. She was a strong volleyball player and her team qualified for state one year. Her tennis career can be summarized pretty easily - she simply won everything. Like Chris, Liz never lost a set while playing Bush high school tennis, and in each of her four years as an Upper School student, she won the singles league, district, and state championships, leading her team to the state championship title all four years. Liz is considered the most decorated Bush athlete of all time. In addition to playing sports at Bush, Liz has led the MS tennis program as the head coach for several years.
The Lewis family’s legacy doesn’t end with their children’s incredible athletic accomplishments. Tom and Joy, Chris’, Tiffany’s, and Liz’ parents found their own ways to leave a lasting impact on our community.
Tom has coached tennis at Bush at all different levels (Summer camps, Middle School, JV, Varsity) and we look forward to welcoming him back to help Liz coach the Middle School team in the 2022-23 school year (right Tom?). In addition to being highly involved in athletics, both as a supportive parent, and as a coach, Tom served as a member of our school’s board of trustees for a number of years, and was the committee chair for the buildings and grounds committee. Tom has also served as a loyal bus driver for countless athletic trips and he has helped with annual fund solicitations.
Joy served on the auction committee for several years and even co-chaired our school’s auction one year. She was a member of the Families Association board for the time her kids spent at Bush, and served as the President one year. She was a room rep for all three of her children, and hosted their annual class parties. Since she was so involved with her kids’ regularly traveling to state tournaments, she supported the athletic department by reserving team accommodations for all Blazers state bound teams. Back when I started working at Bush eight years ago, Joy was still diligently making travel arrangements for our state bound teams - long after her children had graduated.
