Lower School Reading Week - Monday, April 1 through Friday, April 5

Mark your calendars for a week of reading celebration! This event-filled week will include several fun reading themed days, a book drive, a variety of reading challenges, and an author visit from a local cookbook author. Along with our Lower School celebrations, the Bush School Book Fair will occur Tuesday-Thursday of that week in the Community Room. We hope Reading Week will become an annual tradition in the Lower School. Read more about daily events your child can participate in below 

 
Weeklong Optional Activities:
 
-Log your reading minutes to reach our school wide goal of 10,000 minutes of reading in one week! Reading logs will be provided to teachers. Progress toward our goal will be on display at the Reading Week table for all students to track. 
 
-Classroom Door Decoration Challenge: Classes and teachers all over the Lower School will display a cover or scene from a favorite book to decorate their door. Students can choose to fill out their guesses for all doors on sheets provided in their classrooms.
 
-Name that Book: Students can choose to participate in identifying quotes from Lower School favorite books. (K-2 version and 3-5 version)
 
-Daily Guess the Teacher Reader: Daily mystery teacher readers will be described at the Reading Week table near the Third Grade classrooms. Stop by to see if you can figure out who the reader is! 
 
Special Events:
 
Monday, April 1:
-Dress as your favorite book character

Tuesday, April 2:
-Book Drive for gently used books. 
Donations for books can be brought to homerooms
(Guidelines for donated books here. Limit to 20 books per family)
 
Wednesday, April 3:
Read My Shirt Day- Wear a shirt with your favorite slogan, saying, or quote on it.  
 
Thursday, April 4:
-10:00-10:45 am It’s a Book theater performance by Lower School Drama Club for K-5 audience
 
Friday, April 5:
-FMM Author visit - A special visit with local cookbook author who will teach K-5 students about writing cookbooks
-School-wide D.E.A.R. - for 15 minutes our whole lower school will Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.) together
