Varsity Cross Country - Lincoln Park Recap

The varsity team opened up its season last Tuesday with a great showing at the first Emerald City League Meet of the year held at Lincoln Park. A number of new runners completed their first 5k while the veterans pushed hard on a familiar course.
The boys started off with a full team of eight runners, half of which were running their first 5k ever. Freshly back from a year abroad in China, Noah C. led the way for the boys finishing in 3rd place in a great time of 17:32. Just behind Noah, Taylor C. and Kaito H. worked hard, pushing and passing people down the chute to finish in 6th and 7th respectively. Kaito, a freshman, tied Noah C. for the second fastest 9th grade 5k performance in school history in 17:40! Next up for the Blazers was Emil C., running hard and finishing in 34th place, just ahead of a pack of four boys, led by sophomore Gabriel B., who set a personal record of 22:00 and earned the team's athlete of the meet honors. Within three seconds of Gabriel we had William B., Ben K., and Matthew P. cross the line, rounding out a great first effort from the boy’s squad.

The girls were up next and had a great meet. Ela N. and Lolo D. led the way, letting the team mantra, “Focus, Grind, Fly”, guide them to 4th and 5th place finishes respectively. Next across the line was freshman Dylan C. (26th) doing a great job of racing hard in her first varsity 5k followed immediately by Liya M. (27th) pushing to move on runners in the last mile and race tough through the finish. Not far behind was Dalia C., showing grit and determination by working through a brutal side cramp, with Sabine B. digging deep, racing tough and finishing just two spots later. This was a great showing for the team and the coaches were proud of their new and returning runners alike.
