Champs Again! Bush Claims Boys ESC Doubles Tennis Title

For the third straight year, a pair of Bush Blazers have earned the title of Emerald Sound Conference Boys Tennis Doubles Champions. On Monday, October 16, at the Amy Lee Tennis Center, Bush’s Cal J. ’24 and Bernie R. ’24 defeated University Prep 6-3, 7-5 to claim the ESC title.

The doubles pair has now won back-to-back conference titles, and this is Cal J.’s third doubles title he is a part of.

"Cal and Bernie did an exceptional job in securing our school's third consecutive conference and district doubles championship,” said Bush Athletic Director Jo Ito. “When I met with them at our start of the season captain's workshop, it was immediately clear that they were fully committed to their goal of winning the finals again. They were laser focussed all season long, and in addition to playing at the highest level, it was a pleasure to witness them stepping into leadership roles off the court.  They were named co-captains this year, and their positive and encouraging guidance was much appreciated by their teammates and coaches.”

The two will next play in the WIAA State Tournament in the spring of 2024.

“We can't wait to see Cal and Bernie represent The Bush School at the upcoming state championships in Yakima again in the spring,” Jo said. “There is no doubt in my mind that they will keep their sights on claiming the state title once again.”
